Mariam Elsharkawy

I am a structural biology & biochemistry researcher at Rice University working at the intersection of protein structure, computation, and human disease. In the Yang Gao Lab, I investigate ADAR-mediated RNA editing and immune regulation through biochemical experiments, cryo-electron microscopy, structural modeling, proteomics, and computational biology. I am pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Data Science, alongside Rice's accelerated B.S./M.S in Biochemistry.

Outside the lab, I am an avid photographer and aspiring mountaineer, and I’m drawn to new experiences that challenge me physically and take me outside my comfort zone.
